The Woodland was built by J.S. Owen, the founder of Owen. He purchased 30,000 acres which he built the city on. The hotel was built in 1906 and named after Mr. Owen's daughter. The towns people had called her the woodland due to her habit of staying out in the woods. It is now one of 18 stops on the yellowstone trail. Soon to be registered on the historical society, the hotel is one of the event destination point for the Munson Bridge winery.
